A: I am Angelina Neglia. I’m here with Scott MacDonald, author of Saving Investa, How an Ex Factory Worker Helped Save an Iconic Australian Company. In the book, Scott shares 25 lessons learned from his long and successful career.
Lesson number nine: Players Score Points but Teams Win Games.
Scott, how does this apply to management and business and organizations?
S: Angie, to be successful, any organization must have a culture of teamwork. Individual stars must be supportive of the team concept, or the group performance will suffer. For example, I once had a Chief Financial Officer who was brilliant in one regard, but he was very dismissive of other employees. And, I wound up terminating him. Fired him. Everybody was concerned that the CFO was out, but actual performance of the company increased dramatically after his departure. So keep in mind you need a team culture if you’re going to win the game.
