A: This is Angelina Neglia and I’m here with Scott MacDonald, author of Saving Investa, How an Ex-Factory Worker Helped Save an Iconic Australian Company. In the book, Scott shares 25 lessons learned over his long and impressive career.
Lesson twenty is: To achieve success, sacrifice is required, and family bears the greatest burden. Scott, care to explain?
S: Sure, Angie. I can discuss, but why don’t you share your experience? You live in San Diego. You work in San Francisco. You have a family. How do you do it?
A: Well, it’s a tough challenge, but family comes first. Thirty years ago, when I started my career, I lived in San Francisco, and I made a conscious decision to move to San Diego for a better lifestyle, family–that came first. So, I realized being in the computer industry and biotech, there’s a mixture of biotech in San Diego, but all the software development is in the Bay Area. Every job I had, I commuted backwards and forwards, but I always here for every soccer game–everything for the family. You just do it, and you make every minute count in work. And you’re with family. That’s how I’ve done it.
S: Well, that’s make the point better than I could’ve made it, so thanks, Angie. For more lessons learned, get my new book, Saving Investa.
